Cistern is built in the Light-Community of Figueira in volunteer group service and study

Category: Environment

In order to form multipliers for the construction of ferrocement cisterns, the Light-Community of Figueira offered a course in the form of a joint effort, held between January 7 and 10, 2020.

The ferrocement cistern is a reservoir for capturing rainwater.

Built with a simple and efficient technique, which uses few material resources, it provides a conscious use of rainwater and a consequent reduction in the consumption of drinking water.

The course had 10 collaborators, who, in addition to learning the whole process, from planning to construction, also implanted a 20,000 liter cistern in one of the areas of the Light-Community known as Terras da Irmandade.

We know that there is a great need to capture rainwater, not only for use in periods of drought and scarcity, but also as a principle for the preservation of this precious resource that is potable water. And therefore, we thank all those involved for the initiative of the course, and for all the effort in building this first cistern.

Now, the group, which is ready and able to put into practice what has been learned in other areas of the Light-Community, also has plans to create a booklet that will explain, in a simple way, the whole process of building ferrocement cisterns.
